Rockin Movies: Iden & Tity(2003)

"The story is set in the 80s rock scene and revolves around Nakajima (Kazunobu Mineta), the lead singer of a band called ‘Speed Way’. Because he refuses to write trite, pop-friendly songs he is constantly at odds with his own record company. However, he refuses to bend on his rock principles simply for better record sales. The most interesting parts of this movie is how they pay homage to music icon, Bob Dylan who gave the filmmaker his blessing, which is no small feat itself, especially for a Japanese indie debut."

Well, this is certainly an interesting one. It is about rock musicians, Japanese, and got Bob Dylan(kinda) in it;they even got Bob's blessing in using his likeliness and songs...3 of my musical fetish in one package. Whats not to love?

I dedicate this movie for those unsung warriors carrying the corpse of their dead dreams, in the name of music.

The girls chorus gave me goosebumps, man

I got a soft spot for flamenco. It can sometime be so happy, sometimes sad, sometimes moody and sometimes fiery. But it will always be so fucking beautiful. Myself, i prefer a 30 seconds Flamenco phrasing of a noobish student than 30 minutes shredding of the so called master shredder. If i ever learn a guitar i'm gonna learn only flamenco, tango and blues,  and try somehow to fuse those shits together, and see how the resulting mutated offspring will be. I think it will be beautiful.

Never heard of Dr Feelgood? Shame on you, mate. Why, this is the band that had a hit-n-run with Mother Nature, and she bore him Punk Rock. This is the third entry of director Julian Temple's Brit-band documentary, a prequel, of his 2000's The Filth and Fury(Sex Pistols) and 2007's Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. Come, i even throw in the OST for this.

Fish Story

“Fish Story” centre around a rock band from 1975 who decide to break up having had no success, they record one last song before the band splits up. Decades later that song will have a profound effect on peoples lives, eventually becoming the savior of the world."


After reading that little summary I knew I got to watch this movie. 112 wonderful minutes later- and one of the most brilliant ending I ever watched- I was smiling so hard my face hurts. It is one of those movies that after you watched it, your soul wont rest peacefully until you tell someone, or the worst case event, force someone, to watch it.

In a nutshell, it is a story of the last song of a proto-punk band that disbanded in 1975(a year before Sex Pistols-mania) and how it started a chain of event involving an urban legend, a champion of justice, a band of mad preachers, Nostradamus prophecies, badly translated novel and saving the world from Mayan's 2012 theories.

The aforementioned song, also titled 'Fish Story', is quite good. It was written by Kazuyoshi Saito and performed by the actors playing the band.

I had been hunting for the OST with no success but you could download the mp3 from the youtube video. The download link for the movie..I'm gonna introduce you guys to this site I like. I dont feel good stealing people's link, so I'm just gonna point you to them. Its a free site of course, with tons of Asians movies/dramas from Japan, Korean, Hong Kong. They got everything from Yakuza movies to pinku/cat III- you name it, they (probably) got it.
